Pendry Chicago has officially opened. Located in the Loop neighborhood, Pendry Chicago is a “reimagination” of the 1920s Carbide & Carbon Building. (The Burnham Brothers-designed Carbide & Carbon Building is famed for its Champagne bottle design and is composed of polished black granite, green and gold Terracotta with bronze trim, topped off with an ornate cap of 24-karat gold leaf.)
The hotel has 364 redesigned guestrooms and suites and completely renovated public spaces, including the hotel’s signature modern French brasserie and café, Venteux. There’s also the intimate Bar Pendry, while The Billiard Gallery and a summer rooftop bar, set 24 stories above Michigan Avenue, will debut June 25 as Cha?teau Carbide. Guests can expect a “day-to-night experience delivering the lifestyle of the Co?te d’Azur with a very Chicago spin.”
Pendry Chicago’s redesign was led by Alessandro Munge and the design collective, Studio Munge. A black-and-white striped floor leads arriving guests to the reception parlor, adorned with works by Amsterdam-based artist Arnout Meijer; the artwork features an exploration of perception and light, elegantly and playfully contrasting the details of the lobby.
Pendry Chicago is home to the following dining, wellness and lifestyle concepts:
Venteux – Located on the ground floor of Pendry Chicago, this new French brasserie, café and shellfish bar by Andy Masi and Clique Hospitality; it is helmed by executive chef-partner Donald Young, Chicago’s youngest Michelin-starred chef. The stylish and modern 4,000-square-foot restaurant, designed by Studio Munge, brings “a breath of French air” to Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, serving classic French cuisine with a contemporary twist.
Pendry Chicago’s Reception Area
Bar Pendry – Entered through heavy drapery, the dark and moody space is anchored with a curated art collection and a lavish double-sided fireplace. Guests can expect an inventive menu of classic and signature cocktails and light bites.
Cha?teau Carbide – A space never before accessible to locals, Pendry Chicago brings to life the 24th floor with Cha?teau Carbide, a summer pop-up opening June 25 featuring Whispering Angel rose?. Guests and locals can relax in the lifestyle of the Co?te d’Azur: By day, soak up the sun on striped loungers and enjoy a picnic-style menu and curated wine list; by night, the indoor-outdoor space becomes a nightlife destination for DJs, bottle service and city views.
The Billiard Gallery – Chicago’s new hideaway for artists and pool players alike, The Billiard Gallery is tucked away adjacent to the hotel’s lobby and restaurant, with street-side views of Michigan Avenue. The Gallery showcases a rotating collection of artworks and is well-suited for seasonal pop-ups and private events.
Good to know: The fitness center has multiple Peloton bikes, while Pendry Chicago has also partnered with State Bicycle Co. to offer custom Pendry Chicago bicycles to allow guests to explore the city. Select guestrooms also have Tonal Mirrors for on-demand, in-room fitness.
In addition, Pendry Chicago offers 13,000 square feet of special event space catering to parties from 10 to 500, from Michigan Terrace with floor-to-ceiling windows and a 40-foot outdoor veranda with views onto its namesake avenue, to the Ballroom, an Art Deco-inspired space with a large window that can seat gatherings up to 500. For meetings and more intimate events, Pendry Chicago offers multiple gallery rooms and salons with divisible space and creative menus from the Pendry Chicago culinary team.
