October in Prague is nothing short of magical, with its winding cobblestone streets, gothic architecture, and, of course, the crisp air hinting at the cozy flavors of Czech cuisine. Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of joining Eating Europe’s Prague Food & Beer Tour, an experience that opened my eyes to Czech culinary delights and deepened my appreciation for the country’s food heritage. We instantly felt welcomed and excited for the tour thanks to our lovely local guide Marketa who has a clear passion for showing people her city.
Eating Europe: Bringing Culinary Experiences to Life Across Europe
First, a bit about Eating Europe, the tour company behind my Prague experience. Known for its expertly curated food tours across iconic European cities, Eating Europe has built a reputation for showcasing the best of local cuisine and culture in a way that feels both enriching and authentic. They offer tours in destinations such as Rome, Amsterdam, Paris, and Lisbon, just to name a few. What sets Eating Europe apart is their dedication to unearthing hidden culinary gems and giving guests an insider’s view of the food scene. The tours go beyond typical tourist spots and dive into authentic, off-the-beaten-path places where you can taste dishes that embody each destination’s culinary heritage.
This was not my first foodie experience with them and it certainly won’t be my last! Compared to other companies I’ve used, I will say a notable difference is that Eating Europe definitely provides you with more than enough food for a full meal so I recommend you show up hungry and ready to feast. However, their pacing is excellent so it is not too overwhelming over the course of a few hours.
The Prague Food & Beer Tour: An Overview
My adventure with Eating Europe began in the heart of Prague, on Vltava River where we boarded a docked ship. This was certainly an intriguing start. We quickly learned that this is a brewery boat, the only one of its kind in the entire country. We sampled their local beers and the most delicious marinated hermelín cheese that I am still thinking about after a couple weeks! It was a fantastic start to the tour and definitely one of the highlights for me personally. I do not want to spoil every stop on the tour but a few other highlights included tasting light and refreshing Czech white wine, learning about a famous Czech pastry with connections to the United States, as well as discovering some beautiful, hidden-gem worthy spots throughout the city to enjoy in terms of sightseeing.
If you’re visiting Prague soon, you can enjoy a festive version of this tour between November 30, 2024 – January 6, 2025 as the famous Old Town Square Christmas Market will be up! Czech Republic is known for their gingerbread so you will absolutely be able to savor this treat on this holiday tour. It looks like such a magical time to visit Prague, I certainly want to return.
Why Choose a Food Tour?
Food tours are my *FAVORITE* way to experience a city’s culture, especially when time is limited. Here are a few reasons why I found the Prague Food & Beer Tour (and Eating Europe tours in general) such a valuable and memorable activity:
- Efficient and Immersive
In just a few hours, you can get a snapshot of local culture, history, and culinary traditions. For travelers short on time, food tours allow you to dive right into the heart of a destination, combining sightseeing, learning, and eating. - Guided by Locals
One of the highlights of any Eating Europe tour is the knowledgeable guides who lead them. In Prague, our guide shared anecdotes, historical context, and local tips, which enriched our understanding of Czech cuisine in a way that a self-guided exploration could never achieve. - A Social Experience
Food tours like these provide a relaxed, enjoyable way to meet other travelers and bond over shared tastes. The small-group setting was ideal for mingling, which made the experience feel like a mini culinary adventure with friends. This also makes it a perfect solo-travel activity as well! - Authentic and Memorable
With Eating Europe’s tours, you’re not just sampling food, you’re experiencing places where locals dine, which makes it an authentic encounter with the city’s food culture. The carefully chosen stops are often family-owned and offer a personal glimpse into Czech life that’s hard to find on your own.
Final Thoughts: Why It’s Worth Your Time and Money
In today’s fast-paced world, experiences that bring you closer to the heart of a destination are priceless, and Eating Europe’s Prague Food & Beer Tour does just that. Whether you’re a solo traveler or in a group, this tour offers an ideal way to explore Prague through its food, history, and people. Not only is it a fun, delicious experience, but it’s also a meaningful one that leaves you with memories, stories, and tastes that you’ll cherish long after you’ve left. I highly recommend taking a food tour on your first full day in any destination because then you’ll know the best places to eat for the rest of your trip!
