Auberge Resorts Collection has announced the opening of The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection in South Carolina. Located along the Charleston coastline within the 2,000-acre waterfront community of Kiawah River, the resort invites guests to experience coastal living in Charleston’s Sea Islands. Guests can enjoy 20 miles of waterfront, scenic nature trails, marshlands rich in native species and more.
Just a 40-minute drive from downtown Charleston, the resort has 72 cottage-style guestrooms and suites with porches offering riverfront views. Nearly double the size of the guestrooms, the suites have large living rooms, dining nooks and in-room soaking tubs with river views. Various suites and rooms can be combined to accommodate families and friends traveling together. The signature Sweetbay Suite, with its wraparound porch, indoor fireplace and outdoor tub, can also be booked as a private, two-bedroom cottage. The resort will also offer19 privately owned Dunlin-branded residences, set to debut for pre-sale in 2024.
The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection celebrates Southern cooking across its dining venues. Linnette’s, the hotel’s signature restaurant, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It showcases the heritage of Johns Island with familiar coastal cuisine prepared in an open kitchen. Nestled just beneath is Willet Room, the resort’s riverside lounge bar serving iced tea, all-day bites, cocktails and rare whiskeys. Alternatively, The Cove is a 1950s-inspired beach club offering year-round dining. Guests can enjoy lunch classics and cocktails while lounging in private cabanas. Sunbathers can expect deliveries of boozy popsicles, a roving snow cone cart or a visit from a poolside oyster shucker.
Aster, an Auberge Spa offers a range of treatments showcasing Aster honey sourced from local apiaries, alongside botanical treatments, beauty rituals and full-body therapies. Daily fitness classes and a program of visiting specialists are also available. Poolside treatments include an Aster Foot Rub, Radiant River waterless facial, and more. Guests can also participate in a range of workshops, including “Poetry in the Garden,” “Breathing for Beauty,” “Cooking with Flowers” and “The Romance of Teas and Tinctures.”
Outdoor activities include a coastal safari that explores Kiawah River’s protected estuary, home to roseate spoonbills, great blue herons, sea turtles and dolphins. Boaters, kayakers and paddle boarders can connect with tidal patterns and explore the waters at different times of the day with a morning kayak ride, a Southern breakfast picnic or full-moon guided kayaking adventures. Additionally, the Gone Fishin’ workshop allows guests to learn a variety of fishing techniques such as net casting, crabbing and bait lining with a local expert. On land, more than 20 miles of nature trails invite biking and hiking through moss-covered oaks and pines via creeks, ponds and masses of golden marsh grasses along the water’s edge. Other pastimes include oyster-harvesting workshops, cheese-making excursions and experiences on the heirloom cattle ranch. For family adventures, younger guests can enjoy “Minnows Camp” and toy boat races, as well as a visit to a neighboring farm where guests of all ages can collect eggs, feed chickens, milk cows and interact with friendly farm animals. The resort will bring families and neighbors together over bonfires, communal seafood feasts, whole hog BBQs and an annual summer kids club.
The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection has an expert in-house events team alongside event spaces that range from green fields under giant live oak trees to The River Barns, a collection of indoor riverfront venues including The Shippon, an airy light-filled ballroom; the Lime House, a waterside meeting room complete with a signature fireplace; and the furnished River Cottage, ideal for bridal parties or intimate gatherings.
